Program Objective


The intent of the Sign Program is to improve the visual quality of commercial buildings, present an appealing image to potential customers, tenant and investors, and remove blighted conditions within the community.

Program Description


The City of Hawaiian Gardens Sign Program will offer a rebate to business owners, churches, nonprofit organizations, and civic groups to help improve the overall appearance of commercial signs and buildings by providing financial assistance to applicants with business identification signs, exterior paint and landscaping.

Who is Eligible to Apply

To qualify for a rebate the applicant must be a small (20 employees or less), independent, family owned business that has a single location, churches, nonprofit organizations, and civic group, all which have been in the City for one (1) year. Must get written permission from the building owner to apply or be the building owner. Franchises and large corporations will not be assisted under this Program.

Financial Assistance

A rebate at 75% of actual construction cost to a maximum of $5,000 investment for businesses that do not have a permanent sign or for those that signs that are dilapidated or weathered. Financial assistance can also be used for exterior paint of the building and landscaping.

Funds will be made available on a “First Come, First Served” basis. Funding for this program will be allocated from the City’s general fund.
